Emile Prisse d'Avennes, 1807-1879, a French orientalist, author and artist, was one of the greatest pre-20th century Egyptologists. He was enamored of Arab art. For 40 years, he explored the Orient, converted to islam, and he returned to France with with hundreds of folio drawings, photographs, sketches, plans. In 1877, he published his outstanding survey on Islamic art and architecture. This publication reproduces the 3 atlas volumes containing 200 plates, mainly by Prisse d'Avennes.
